2 channel projection, date seeds, gold thread

Flying with huma considers the movement of flying as a ritualistic embodiment of the Huma bird. Iā€™m interested in the ways myth can awaken different ways of participating in this world. The legend of the Huma bird breaks boundaries of gender, ability, and visibility. The Huma bird from Iranian mythology flies the skies, never touching the ground. She is invisible to the human eye. Existing with female and male qualities, one wing and one leg, she represents unreachable highness and is said to bring good fortune to those lucky enough to catch a glimpse of her shadow. Some with great imaginations say they see her sitting at the top of date palms. To situate the recording of this ritual, I create a constellation of date seeds as a call back to the SWANA region.
